HOW IT’S MADE: Each butter keeper base and bell is individually thrown on the potters wheel. Soon after, it is trimmed, stamped and fired for the first time. Lastly, each butter keeper is glazed and fired in our modest studio kiln.
HOW IT WORKS: French butter dishes are a traditional way to store butter at room temperature without it spoiling. The dish consists of two parts: a base that holds water, and a lid that fits snugly on top. The butter is placed in the lid, which is then inverted and placed into the base, where the water creates an airtight seal to keep the butter fresh. French butter dishes are a convenient and elegant way to keep butter at the perfect temperature for easy spreading. They also make great gifts for foodies or anyone who loves a touch of rustic charm in their kitchen.
HOW TO USE: (Instructions included in orders)
1. For our handmade keepers, approximately measure the height difference of each piece to figure the proper water fill amount. Usually 1/2" - 1/4" of cold water is needed, however better more water than not enough.
2. Fill the base with water.
3. After washing and completely drying, fully pack the butter bell with room temperature butter eliminating any air bubbles.
4. Place the bell upside down in the base allowing the water to create an airtight seal.
5. Lift, spread and enjoy!
